The Elements of the Design Process are as follows:
Phase Element Steps
Phase I Study & Research
  1. Understand content area.
  2. Get to know the site's sponsor.
  3. Understand the target market.
  4. Research the competition.
Analyze Need
  1. Define Client's Needs.
  2. Define User's Needs.
  3. Create a Needs Statement.
Develop Site Specifications & Standards
  1. Prepare goal Statement.
  2. Develop user profiles and scenarios.
  3. List content requirements & Sources.
  4. Describe technical requirements.
  5. Select URL.
  6. Clarify expectations.
Develop Project Management Plan
  1. Describe how the work will be carried out.
  2. Define those responsible for doing the work.
  3. Indicate locations of existing Materials.
  4. Describe materials that need to be created.
  5. List types of resources that are to be included.
Phase II Design the Basic Site
  1. Select editing tools and development platforms.
  2. Analyze and organized information for site.
  3. Create Site's Map.
  4. Create Navigation Plan.
  5. Identify possible cross links.
Prepare Resources
  1. Develop content. Include text, graphics, animations and screen dynamics, multimedia & interactivity.
  2. Use organizational aids.
Develop Prototype
  1. Develop composits to show different versions of the layout.
  2. Develop storyboards showing how users will navigate site.
Review Prototype
  1. Review prototype with Client.
  2. Make needes revisions.
  3. Obtain Client's approval.
Produce Full Site
  1. Ensure all links are active & working.
  2. Ensure all scripts are tested.
  3. Ensure all graphics & other audiovisual elelments are created and in place.
  4. Ensure all prototype pages have been exactly followed.
  5. Ensure efficiency of site.
Phase III Launch
  1. Upload files.
Test
  1. Perform general check of site
  2. Check all links & graphics.
  3. Check page access time.
  4. Check Accessibility & Usability.
  5. Perform editorial check for grammatical errors & spelling mistakes.
Receive Client Approval
  1. Obtain approval signature from authorized agent or client.
  2. Register the site with Web Directories.
  3. Perform Search Engine Optimization.
Maintain & Update
  1. Negotiate separate contract for Web Site Maintenance.
  2. Repair Problems.
  3. Update info to keep it current and interesting.
  4. Improve Site.
